The 1912 Official Handbook of Automobiles, (wow, stats and views of brasss era cars still licensed under the Selden patent)

the above delivery wagon is cool, but check out the Locomobile Cup Racer, and the price ... $18,000

the Peerless on the right hand side below... if you read the stat sheet, you might be as amused as I am that the body is known as the "King of Belgium"

the Selden Patent issue:
The above tag has a bit of historical perspective... the Selden company patented the automobile. He collected on every car made... 0.75%

Selden was a patent attorney. His dad was a judge, and a prominent Republican attorney most noted for defending Susan B Anthony.

Yeah, it obviously didn't stand up very long, but for a time, they had the patent on the automobile, and if you wanted to sell a car in America, you either paid a licensing fee or fought them in court.

Henry Ford fought them in court and won... he was obviously better prepared to make a success and a fortune that he'd share with the US Govt by way of taxes, so the right people were persuaded to take the patent of the automobile, and make it go away... the reason given was that the Ford and other cars were using an engine based on a different engine than Selden had patented.

2011 The Cadillac CTS-V Sport

The engine is meant to perform and its matched by an aggressive and bold frame which is accented by nineteen inch performance wheels complete the whole look. The Magnetic Ride suspension helps to adjust shock pressure on the road. There are two modes for the suspension; Sport and Tour. The Sport mode is more suitable for a sporty drive whereas Tour is ideal for every day driving.

There are a few physical changes from the V-coupe and the regular CTS version; the V edition has a sharper grille, different lights and a bigger hood. The cabin looks exactly the same. Other features to make you as comfortable as possible include a navigation system, a sweet audio system with crystal clear sound quality and Bluetooth compatibility. This is a car that can be suited for every driver; there is a power tilt and telescoping steering wheel and the seats are power adjustable. Another great feature is the spacious 40 gig hard drive in place, just perfect for storing all of your favorite tunes.

If you want to make the front of your Cadillac look even more appealing, you might want to consider adding a custom grille, chrome fog light bezel or a lower accent grille. Custom grilles come in a wide variety of materials, such as aluminum and stainless steel, and finishes, like color match, chrome and silver. Many custom grilles are made from high quality metals that are incredibly durable and they will also stay clean. Lower accent grilles, on the other hand, can be placed below the existing grille to add an extra personal touch without making a large change to the look of your vehicle. Some even feature finishes which mimic the sparkle of small diamonds.

Cadillac's CTS coupe has received lots of praise for its angular lines, aggressive rear end and bold looks. However, if its 304 HP engine didn't quench your desire for power now there is something bigger and better; the super powerful 2011 CTS V-coupe with 556 of hp at 6100 rpm and 551 lb feet of torque at 3800 rpm for your driving pleasure.

This car comes with a solid 6.l Liter V8 LSA engine and is available in both manual and automatic transmissions. In order to provide a balance against so much power, Cadillac has installed powerful Bremo brakes. The coupe comes with a magnetic ride control suspension and is available with Remco racing bucket seats at an additional cost of $3400. Thanks to this incredible powertrain, this car will be able to be on the same playing field with other high end sports coupes such as the world renowned BMW M3. The CTS V-coupe is truly a high performance car; this car travels from 0-60mph in an incredible 4.2 seconds! In addition, this vehicle travels one fourth of a mile in 12.2 seconds. It's extremely easy to accelerate and speed up in this car.

As an E-REV, the Converj would be something of a cross between an electric car and a hybrid. It would be able to operate on battery power alone for up to 40 miles at highway speed, but carry a small gasoline engine that would activate when the batteries were low, giving the Converj the same range as a conventional, gasoline-powered car. Since GM chose to show the car as a Cadillac product, it would likely be appointed as a luxury car and command a price premium over its Volt sibling, but details are scarce.

That question may soon be asked of GM when it comes to its Voltec technology, the lithium-ion battery system powering the soon to be released Chevrolet Volt sedan. GM has made it plain that the Volt will not be the only product utilizing its latest electric technology, with several models developed to do just that.
Cadillac Canceled
At one point, GM appeared to be committed to building the Cadillac Converj, a stylish coupe based on Voltec. That won't happen and probably for two reasons: the Converj would have competed with the CTS coupe and GM appears ready to roll out a hybrid replacement for its larger STS and DTS sedans.
Cadillac will get a Voltec model, but not just yet.
So, where will Voltec appear? Opel and Buick (China) are two additional areas where the technology will roll out. But as auto trends change, you may see Voltec appear as follows:

which may cost up to $40,000

GM Introduces Cell Phone Charging Mats at CES, Production Begins in 2012

Thanks to induction technology, mobile electronic devices, such as phones, can be wirelessly charged, just by placing them on special pads. At the 2011 CES in Las Vegas, General Motors announced plans to introduce the wireless charging technology in many future Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac products, beginning from the second half of 2012.

The Detroit automaker revealed that is has signed a commercial agreement with an Israeli company called Powermat that specializes on the new technology. GM Ventures, the company’s venture capital subsidiary, will invest a total of $5 million in Powermat to help accelerate its development and support efforts to grow Powermat’s business globally, the company said in a statement.

The new technology is said not only to eliminate the need for charging cords, but, according to Powermat CEO Ran Poliakine, it’s also safer and more efficient.

The Chevrolet Volt will be one of the first cars to benefit from the new equipment.

“Imagine a mat or shelf where you could put your iPhone, your Droid or other personal device and charge it automatically while you commute to work, run errands or as you’re driving on a family vacation”, said Micky Bly, GM’s lead electronics executive. “The Chevy Volt will be one of the first applications, but we intend to expand it across our vehicle portfolio”, Bly added.
